Bobette's entry:
Well, I have had a few "Bertie Moments" in my lifetime but only one truly embarrassing never to be forgotten one. It all happened in a very crowded department store during the holiday season. My sister called me and ask me to go shopping with her so I could help her out with my two year old nephew. I agreed and hurriedly started to get dressed. The wrap around skirt was a popular item at this time in fashion so I put mine on and in my hurried state I forgot to put on my slip, another popular item in those days. Well, here we go off to a very crowded department store and I have my nephew in the shopping buggy. I am looking at some shoes my favorite thing to do, when I notice all of these people looking at me in a very strange way. I thought, my I must look pretty good tonight, while in reality, while I was so involved in finding that perfect pair of shoes that I couldn't live without, my darling nephew of two had untied my wrap around skirt. Yes, there I was in the middle of the shoe department with my skirt around my ankles in all of my glory. Talk about feeling like being in the "Twilight Zone" I did. I can't even remember how many shoe racks I knocked over trying to hide, all the while holding my skirt in my hand and driving a shopping buggy at the same time !!! Yes, I would call that a "Bertie Moment" for sure. Oh, the wrap around skirt, I learned to double knot a bow real quick and never wore it again without one. Bobette Shuman

Paul Ray's entry:
my "Bertie Moment" occurred in August 1972. At the time I was serving in the U S Navy aboard the Navy Destroyer U S S Sarsfield DD837. After leaving the coast of Viet Nam we pulled into Hong Kong for seven days of R and R. As sailors are known to do i went into town and had a few too many of liquid refreshment. So after a long night of meeting many people in Hong Kong and patronizing their fine establishments I somehow made it back to my ship and my bunk and immediately fell asleep.
The next morning when i awoke with a hangover i looked around and did not recognize anyone. i thought maybe i was suffering from amnesia or i was in the twilight zone. finally after getting myself upright and mobile i went outside to the main deck of the ship only to discover that i was not on MY ship but another identical ship that was tied up next to mine. so i explained to the guys on this ship that i needed to be on that ship and i just walked on over and finally saw my shipmates. no harm was done and this was 35 or 40 years before the increased security we see now days.
in addition to this being a Bertie Moment i think it may also qualify as a Jimmy Buffett Moment as in wasted away again in Margaritaville. However Mr Buffett does not have a contest going on now so i hope to qualify for yours.
now i am an old man of 57 and i no longer do what i used to do as a young man but i do believe i was having a bertie moment back then. Paul Ray Heinrich
